Akzo Nobel

Akzo Nobel

As a multi-national company, Akzo Nobel is part of many societies and different cultures. We take pride in our diversity, but we maintain a common set of standards and values which are consistent throughout our global organization.

Under the umbrella of Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility, these inherent operating principles are the binding element of our wide-ranging activities.

Akzo Nobel has placed a great deal of emphasis on these values in recent years. We trained 65,000 employees worldwide on our Business Principles, which form the basis for all our actions. Additional internal programs have also been implemented to help guide employee behavior, such as Risk Management, Product Stewardship, Responsible Care and Coatings Care, Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Management.

Our businesses are also guided by a number of Specific Principles designed to help them in dilemma situations. As a responsible member of society, we are committed to international agreements and codes of conduct:

A key element of our daily business operations is the involvement of stakeholders—such as our neighbors, NGOs and business partners—in social responsibility issues. Often this takes place at Business Unit and production site level.

At corporate level Akzo Nobel participates in a select number of networks aimed at a exchanging and sharing efforts to further develop social responsibility in our mainstream business. To that end, Akzo Nobel is a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the European Conference Board and the Round Table on Human Rights in the Netherlands where we discuss human rights with a number of large companies and Amnesty International.
